President Ford survives 2 assassination attempts

Civil war begins in Lebanon .

North Vietnamese take Saigon ending Vietnam war.

Khmer Rouge occupy the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penn, ending the Cambodian civil war.

Soyuz-Apollo test flight (US and Soviet spaceships dock).

Death of Spanish dictator, Franco.

Portuguese colonies Angola and Mozambique independent.

Altair introduce Altair MITS 8800, first personal computer.

Microsoft founded.

British voters, decide in a referendum to remain part of the European Economic Community.

Indian Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, declares a State of Emergency.

The Thriller in Manila: Boxers, Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, fight in Manila, the Philippines.

1975 is a great year.

Gerald Ford takes over as President of the US when President Nixon is impeached and later resigns from office.

Pet rocks are a fad of this time as are mood rings.

Mood rings could also tell how you were feeling due to your body temperature.

• Broadway musical The Wiz opens at the Majestic Theater on January 5, with Geoffrey Holder, Stephanie Mills.

• On January 12 the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Minnesota Vikings 16-6 in Super Bowl IX.

• Artist Thomas Hart Benton dies in Kansas City January 19 at age 85.

• The Supreme Court rules 5 to 4 January 22 in Goss v. Lopez that unless their presence poses a physical threat, students may not be temporarily suspended from school for misconduct without some attention to due process.

• John Mitchell, John Erlichman & H.R. Haldeman were convicted of perjury, conspiracy, and obstruction of justice related to the Watergate break-in.

They were sentenced to 2½ to 8 years in prison on February 21.

• Saigon falls: Vietnamese forces close in on Saigon. President Thieu resigned April 21 and flees the country.

• On April 23, in a speech at Tulane University, President Ford announces the war in Vietnam is "finished as far as the U.S. in concerned."

• The first Apollo-Soyuz U.S.-Soviet space linkup takes place July 18.

Astronauts Thomas P. Stafford, Donald K. Slayton, and Van D. Brand exchange visits 140 miles above Earth with cosmonauts Aleksei Leonov and Valery N. Kubasov whose Soyuz spacecraft lands safely in the Soviet Union July 21.

The Apollo astronauts splash down in the Pacific 3 days later, ending the Apollo missions. • Teamster boss Jimmy Hoffa disappears July 30 and is believed to have been murdered by underworld figures.

• The Toxic Substances Control Act signed by President Ford October 12 requires phasing out all production and sale of PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) within 3 years.

The measure imposes strict technology requirements on the chemical industry and will oblige smaller firms to quit production. PCBs have been linked to cancer and birth defects.

• Cincinnati Reds beat the Boston Red Sox on October 22 to win the World Series. Pete Rose wins MVP award.

• More than one million Pet Rocks were sold.

• Mood Rings were popular.

• Hale House opened.

• Two young men, Bill Gates and Paul Allen, found the Microsoft Corporation.

• First Mcdonalds drive-thru is created.
